Check Hard Drive(s) for errors - Run "SCANDISK" hard drive utility . Running Scandisk will keep your hard drive in physically good shape. This is used in addition to defrag, both programs will keep your hard drive running smoothly.
- To run SCANDISK...
- Click on "My Computer"
- Right click on drive to test
- Click on "properties"
- Click on the "Tools" tab
- Within the Error Checking section, click on "Check now"
- Select the options to automatically fix errors and scan for bad sectors.
- Click "Start"
- Windows tells you the program must be shut down to run and asks you if you'd like to run Scandisk next time Windows starts, select "yes"
- Restart Windows. Note: Your computer may restart several times during this process; it normally takes 15 minutes to 2 hours to complete.
